High-quality antibodies to von Willebrand Factor (vWF)

Von Willebrand disease (VWD) is an inherited disease that affects the ability of the blood to clot. Uncontrolled bleeding can damage internal organs and in some instances prove fatal. The main problem is the inability to clot and therefore bleeding to stop after an injury. In VWD, the protein von Willebrand factor (vWF) that helps blood clot is present at lower levels than normal or does not function as it should. The normal response to injury is the accumulation of platelets at the site of injury, vWF acts as a glue to form a blood clot. von Willebrand factor also carries another clotting protein: factor VIII. VWD is the most common of all the inherited bleeding disorders and occurs in about 1 out of every 100 to 1,000 people, both males and females. Early diagnosis is important. With the right treatment plan, even people with the most severe forms of the disease can be helped to live normal, active lives.
